1860 Victorian Red Cedar double leaf extension table restoration – Before and After

We restored this cedar extension table to it’s former glory.

This piece is a family heirloom. When it arrived to our factory, like many extention tables we see, there was a considerable amount of wear from age and use. We hand stripped the table using old methods in order to not damage the timber in the process. As every leaf in this top was cracked, it was important to carefully break the splits in the cedar and join them back together using timber dowels where necessary. This added extra support in the new joints. Repairs were carried to the runners and guides, replacing any part showing too much wear. This guaranteed that the extention mechanism worked like new. This table was finished Natural using a 50% Clear 2Pac.

1870 Victorian Guild Mirror

This mirror came to us in very poor condition. These mirrors were made by casting moulded plaster onto the timber using wire to hold it together. Over the years, and a few restorations later, many of the plaster mouldings and beading were missing, broken or previously restored incorrectly. The mirror had also been painted gold. Originally it would of been guild as the original size was still apparent in some sections. We had been instructed to bring this piece back to life, replacing carvings and repairing and replacing plaster where needed. The gold look was what was important to the client so we continued to finish it with a specific gold paint to resemble its original condition.
